US PET imports from Mexico up in volume, down in value

HOUSTON, January 21, 2016 (PCW) -- US imports of packaging-grade PET from Mexico in 2015 through November were up slightly in volume from January to November 2014 but down in value by $39.5 million, or 15.7%.

Mexico is the largest source of US packaging-grade PET imports, which were valued at $824 million in 2014 from all countries.

The lower value of imports from Mexico this year shows the falling value of prime PET from 2014.

US imports from Mexico from January to November 2015 totaled 171,239 metric tons valued at $212.2 million, compared to 169,399 MT valued at $251.7 million in the year-earlier period. -- Xavier A. Cronin
