Americas Styrenics takes St James styrene unit down for turnaround
HOUSTON, January 10, 2017 (PCW) – Americas Styrenics has taken its 2.09 billion lbs/yr (950,000 mt/yr) St James styrene unit down for a month-long turnaround.
The unit constitutes 23% of US styrene capacity, as per PetroChem Wire estimates.
US styrene was last heard done at $1270/mt (57.6 cpp), up $20/mt from the $1250/mt (56.7 cpp) last done on Monday and last Friday.
Three planned US styrene unit turnarounds in 1Q, coupled with several in Asia, has sent global prices soaring on tight supplies and expectations of lower imports. Global Feb and Mar bids and offers on Tuesday suggest a contango structure for the duration of 1Q as market players prepared themselves for a prolonged tight supply situation.
