ExxonMobil’s Baytown BOP-X olefins unit running at reduced rates
HOUSTON, January 23, 2017 (PCW) – ExxonMobil’s BOP-X olefins unit at Baytown is running at significantly reduced rates after a propylene refrigeration compressor shut down last Friday.
The olefins unit has a capacity of 2.3 billion lbs/yr; it represents 3.55% of total US ethylene capacity. It can consume about 65,000 b/d of ethane.
The plant is expected to fully return to service once the compressor is repaired, which could take about a week.
“We are working diligently to resolve the matter as quickly as possible so we can return to normal operations,” ExxonMobil said in a statement. “As a matter of practice, we do not discuss the status of individual operating units. We do continue to meet our contractual commitments.”
BOP X was last offline last August.
