Shell holds open season for Marcellus ethane pipeline

HOUSTON, October 18, 2016 (PCW) – Shell Pipeline Company has launched an open season for its 107,000 b/d ethane pipeline from Marcellus Shale production fields to its upcoming cracker in Monaca, Pennsylvania.

The Falcon Ethane Pipeline System will run for 94 miles from three supply points in Houston, Cadiz and Scio in Ohio and Pennsylvania and will terminate in Monaca.

Construction is expected to begin in late 2018 with commissioning and start-up in early 2020. The open season will run through Nov 18.

Shell’s cracker is expected to have an ethylene production capacity of 3 billion lbs/yr and is scheduled to come online in 2021.

The cracker is expected to consume about 93,000 b/d of ethane. -- Samantha Hartke
