US PE scrap imports up 29% in Jan-Aug on surge from Canada

HOUSTON, October 25, 2016 (PCW) -- US imports of PE scrap totaled 47,437 metric tons in January-August, up 29% or by 10,654 mt from Jan-Aug 2015, the latest USA Trade Online data show.

Imports from Canada at 26,733 mt comprised 56% of the total and were up 69% or by 10,877 mt from the 2015 period.

Imports from Mexico, the second largest source, totaled 17,106 mt in Jan-Aug 2016, up 4% or by 635 mt from the 2015 period.

Total US PE scrap imports in 2015 were 55,375 mt valued at $34 million, compared to 101,859 mt of PET scrap imports valued at $55.5 million. -- Xavier A. Cronin
