Reliance takes delivery of world’s two largest ethane vessels; will be used for US exports
HOUSTON, October 28, 2016 (PCW) – India’s Reliance Industries has inaugurated the world’s two largest ethane vessels, the Ethane Crystal and Ethane Emerald.
The two VLECs are among the six Reliance ordered in 2014, designed to move US ethane to crackers in India.
Reliance is expected to begin lifting ethane cargoes from Enterprise Product Partners’ export terminal at Morgan’s Point in December.
In 2014, Reliance signed a long-term agreement to export US ethane for use at its 1.5 million mt/ytr (3.3 billion lbs/yr) Jamnagar cracker in India. The length of the agreement has not been disclosed, but Reliance has said it will export 1.5 million mt/yr of ethane from the US.
In a separate release, Reliance said the US ethane transported on these ships would supply its crackers in Dahej, Hazira and Nagothane. -- Samantha Hartke
