CP Chem’s new PE units online by mid-2017; cracker in service in 2H 2017

HOUSTON, October 28, 2016 (PCW) – Phillips 66 on Friday said its new petrochemicals facility at Cedar Bayou is now 85% complete with the two polyethylene units expected online by mid-2017 and the 3.3 billion lbs/yr ethane cracker in service in 2H 2017.

P66 on Friday reported third-quarter net income of $556 million, down 66.2% from the $1.647 billion seen in the year-ago period. The decrease was attributed to planned and unplanned operations outages and maintenance across the chemicals and refined products sectors.

The Chemicals segment, which represents P66’s investment in Chevron Phillips, saw 3Q earnings of $101 million, down from $190 million in the $252 million seen in the year-ago period. Global utilization of its olefins and polyolefins units were at 91% for the quarter. The O&P business saw $165 million in earnings in 3Q, down $5 million from 2Q due to unplanned downtime. The Specialties, Aromatics and Styrenics business contributed $31 million of earnings in the third quarter, up $6 million from 2Q, largely due to improved benzene margins. -- Samantha Hartke
