ExxonMobil’s new Baytown cracker delayed to mid-2018
HOUSTON, October 27, 2017 (PCW) – ExxonMobil on Friday said its new 3.3 billion lbs/yr olefins plant in Baytown is expected to be mechanically complete early next year with production expected in mid-2018.
This is a delay from the end-2017 start-up date. The unit is expected to consume about 90,000 b/d of ethane.
Meanwhile, its second 1.43 billion lbs/yr mLLDPE unit at Mont Belvieu is starting up, executives said. The first unit started up in mid-October. Meanwhile, chemical and refining units at Baytown, Mont Belvieu and Beaumont, which had shut down due to Hurricane Harvey, have resumed normal operations, executives said.
ExxonMobil on Friday reported 3Q net income of $3.97 billion, up from $2.65 billion a year ago, on improved commodity prices and the sale of Canadian retail assets. -- Samantha Hartke
