Oxy/Mexichem olefins plant in Ingleside to finish commissioning in mid-January
HOUSTON, November 1, 2016 (PCW) – Occidental Petroleum on Tuesday said its 1 billion lbs/yr joint-venture ethylene plant with Mexichem at Ingleside is expected to complete commissioning activities in mid-January with production on track to begin in 1Q.
The cracker is the first in a slate of new ethylene plants to come online in North America over the next five years. It is expected to consume about 30,000 b/d of ethane.
In its earnings call last week, Mexichem executives more specifically pinpointed on-spec production at late in the first quarter with a ramp-up to full capacity in 4Q 2017.
Oxy reported a 3Q net loss of $241 million, compared to a $2.609 billion loss in the year-ago period. The chemicals segment reported income of $117 million in the quarter, down from $272 million in 3Q 2015. The decrease was due to lower chlor-alkali and calcium chloride volumes and higher ethylene costs. -- Samantha Hartke
