Inter Pipeline delays FID of Alberta PDH to mid-2017; also evaluating PP plant
HOUSTON, November 3, 2016 (PCW) – Calgary-based Inter Pipeline on Thursday delayed its final investment decision on a $1.85 billion propane dehydrogenation unit in Alberta to mid-2017 from the end of this year.
Inter Pipeline had acquired the planned PDH unit as part of its $138 billion CAD acquisition of Williams’ Canadian assets. The company did not provide a reason for the delay.
The company also said it was looking at the commercial viability of building a polypropylene facility next to the proposed PDH unit. “Inter Pipeline is currently pursuing long-term, fee based off take agreements with a number of global plastics manufacturing and marketing companies,” the company said.
The PP facility is expected to cost about $1.3 billion.
Should the company decide to move forward with the projects, the expected in-service date would be mid-2021.
Inter Pipeline also reported 3Q net income of $121.3 million on Thursday, down 5.5% from $128.4 million seen in 3Q 2015. -- Samantha Hartke
