Indorama affirms 4Q 2017 start-up timing of Lake Charles cracker
HOUSTON, November 10, 2016 (PCW) – Thailand’s Indorama Ventures on Thursday said its 880 million lbs/yr cracker in Lake Charles was on schedule for a 4Q 2017 start-up.
The unit would consume both ethane and propane as feedstocks.
The cracker is a brownfield project, an idled unit owned by Equistar. The plant has a capacity of 370,000 mt/yr (0.8 billion lb/yr) of ethylene and 30,000 mt/yr of propylene. Indorama’s investment is estimated at $175 million and also includes an additional 250 acres surrounding the facility.
Indorama is already a major producer of ethylene oxide and mono ethylene glycol, for which ethylene is the feedstock, produced by its plant in Clear Lake, Texas.
On Thursday, Indorama reported 3Q net income of $3.2 billion Thai baht (USD$9 million), up about sixfold from the $479 million Thai baht (USD$1.4 million) reported in the year-ago period. The company attributed the increase to volumetric increases from its feedstock plants in the US and Spain. -- Samantha Hartke
