Dow St Charles cracker restarted, 2nd unit returns to service this week
HOUSTON, November 6, 2017 (PCW) – Dow’s St Charles SCO-1 olefins unit restarted last Friday after going down for a planned turnaround in late September. SCO-2 is scheduled to restart sometime this week.
SCO-1 has an ethylene production capacity of 1.3 billion lbs/yr and can consume 25,000 b/d of ethane and 10,000 b/d of propane, according to PetroChem Wire estimates. Some 138 million pounds of ethylene was lost from this unit during the turnaround.
SCO-2 has a production capacity of 800 million lbs/yr and can consume 15,000 b/d of ethane, 5,000 b/d of propane and 5,000 b/d of normal butane. As of last Friday, about 104 million pounds of ethylene from this unit during the turnaround. -- Samantha Hartke
