US Scrap PET exports down 49% in October
HOUSTON, December 15, 2015 (PCW) -- US exports of scrap PET were down 49% in October from October 2014, the latest USA Trade Online data show. Scrap PET exports in October totaled 18,104 metric tons, down from 35,387 MT a year earlier. PET scrap exports include Grade B bales, which yield less-than 94% PET.
All US plastic scrap exports were 170,276 MT in October, down 31% from 245,323 MT in October 2014. Plastic scrap export categories reported by USA Trade Online, a unit of the US Customs Bureau, include PET, PE, PS, PVC and "other."
The other category is a mix of non-segregated plastic scrap. Other plastic scrap exports in October totaled 60,425 MT, down 18% from 73,673 MT in October 2014. Total other US plastic scrap exports in 2014 were 761,740 MT, second to PE's 771,726 MT total. -- Xavier A. Cronin
