Methanex starts production from second relocated Chilean plant at Geismar
HOUSTON, December 30, 2015 (PCW) –- Methanex said Wednesday that it started methanol production from its 1 million mt/yr (2.2 billion lb/yr) plant in Geismar, Louisiana, last Sunday.
This is the second plant the company has relocated to Geismar from Punta Arenas, Chile.
The plant started production about three months ahead of schedule, the company said, and is expected to ramp up to full capacity over the next few weeks. The start-up of Geismar 2 expands Methanex’s operating capacity by about 3 million mt/yr over the last three years.
The cost of relocating the two Chilean plants to Louisiana was about $1.4 billion.
