US plastic scrap exports down 8.6% through September
HOUSTON, December 2, 2016 (PCW) -- US exports of plastic scrap totaled 1,446,415 metric tons through September, down 86% or 136,965 mt from Jan-Sep 2015, the latest USA Trade Online data show.
Exports of the largest category, unsorted plastic scrap, fell to 533,180 mt in the 2016 period, down 17% or 109,434 mt from Jan-Sep 2015. Exports of PE scrap, the second largest category, totaled 527,725 mt in Jan-Sep 2016, down 3.7% or 20,221 mt from the 2015 period.
Exports of PS scrap were 25,632 mt in the first nine months of 2016, up 48% or 7,673 mt from Jan-Sep 2015.
US plastic scrap exports for all of 2015 were valued at $817.4 million. -- Xavier A. Cronin
