First shipment of US ethane heads for India
HOUSTON, December 22, 2016 (PCW) – The first shipment of US ethane has departed from Enterprise Product Partners’ Morgan’s Point terminal en route to India.
The Ethane Crystal, chartered by Reliance Industries, left the export terminal Wednesday for Dahej, India.
Maritime data indicates the vessel, which is transporting about 800,000 barrels of ethane, will reach its destination at the end of January.
In 2014, Reliance signed a long-term agreement to export US ethane for use at its 1.5 million mt/ytr (3.3 billion lbs/yr) Jamnagar cracker in India. The length of the agreement has not been disclosed, but Reliance has said it will export 1.5 million mt/yr of ethane from the US. Reliance has also said the US ethane transported on these ships would supply its crackers in Dahej, Hazira and Nagothane.
Reliance’s second vessel, the Ethane Emerald, is heading toward Morgan’s Point from Korea and is expected at the terminal in early January. -- Samantha Hartke
