Global January benzene contracts settle higher; US split again

HOUSTON, December 30, 2016 (PCW) -- The US January benzene contract price settled at 267 cpg ($798/mt) and 275 cpg ($822/mt), up 47-52 cpg from the prior month, which also saw a split settle at 234 cpg ($700/mt) and 235 cpg ($703/mt).

The European Jan benzene contract price has settled at €806/mt CIF NWE ($850/mt or 284 cpg), up €175/mt from Dec.

In Asia, Japan’s JX Nippon Oil & Energy settled the Jan Asia Contract Price at $845/mt (283 cpg) CFR Asia, up $60/mt from December.

Spot Asian prices rose $100/mt, or 13%, in December, while US prices were up 30 cpg ($90/mt), or 12%. Brent crude, meanwhile, gained $2.28/bbl, or 4%. -- Samantha Hartke
