Boardwalk, Kinder Morgan mulling storage at Mont Belvieu
HOUSTON, December 11, 2017 (PCW) – Boardwalk Louisiana Midstream and Kinder Morgan announced Monday they were looking at development an NGL and petrochemical salt dome storage facility at Mont Belvieu.
“The parties are undertaking preliminary activities to determine whether they should create a joint venture to implement the project, including consideration and analysis of the design and scope of both the physical and commercial structure of the project,” according to a statement from Boardwalk.
The project consists of up to five hydrocarbon storage wells for NGLs or olefins. The first two initial product wells would store ethane and ethylene. Each well could have a capacity of as much as 5 million barrels with rates of 10,000 bbls/hour.
Should the project get the green light from both companies, it could go into service between 18-24 months after final approval.
Boardwalk currently has 1.2 billion lbs of ethylene storage at Choctaw, Louisiana, as well as two ethane and two E/P mix wells at the same location. It also has 600,000 barrels of ethylene storage at the Sulphur, LA hub, as well as a 1 million-barrel ethane cavern and 500,000 barrels of propane storage. -- Samantha Hartke
