Inter Pipeline moves forward with 525,000 mt/yr PP/PDH plant in Canada
HOUSTON, December 18, 2017 (PCW) -- Inter Pipeline today announced a final investment decision to build an integrated 525,000 mt/yr propane-to-PP plant in Alberta, at an estimated cost of $3.5 billion.
The Heartland Complex will include a PDH unit that can convert 22,000 b/d of propane into 525,000 mt/yr of polymer grade propylene (PGP). The propane feedstock will come from Inter Pipeline's nearby Redwater Olefinic Fractionator as well as several third-party fractionators.
“Driven by attractive feedstock and utility costs, the Heartland Complex is expected to be one of the lowest cost polypropylene producers in North America," Inter Pipeline CEO Christian Bayle said in a news release.
Construction on the PDH unit is expected to begin in early 2018, and construction on the downstream PP unit is expected to begin in 2H 2018. -- David Barry
