Chevron Phillips' Cedar Bayou ethane cracker reaches completion
HOUSTON, December 20, 2017 (PCW) -- Chevron Phillips announced Wednesday morning that its world-scale ethane cracker at Cedar Bayou has reached mechanical completion and has begun commissioning activities and system checks ahead of its start-up.
The unit's ethylene capacity is 1.5 million mt/yr (approximately 3.3 billion lbs/yr), and is the centerpiece of the company's $6 billion Gulf Coast Petrochemical Project, which commenced in 2011. The company started up two new PE units at its Old Ocean site in Sep with a combined capacity of 1 million mt/yr (approximately 2.2 billion lbs/yr).
In addition to the cracker and PE units, the company noted that it has purchased nearly 3,000 new rail cars and has also built a storage-in-transition facility to ship PE by rail to both domestic customers and to ports. -- Kathy Hall
