US PET imports from Canada down 4.5% Jan-Nov 2015
HOUSTON, February 1, 2016 (PCW) -- US imports of packaging-grade PET from Canada, the second largest exporter of PET to the US, fell 4.5% in the first 11 months of 2015 compared with the 2014 period, the latest USA Trade Online data show.
For January through November 2015, PET imports from Canada totaled 123,763 metric tons, down from 129,538 MT in the 2014 period.
The value of US PET imports from Canada in all of 2014 was $239 million, 29% of the value of all US PET imports that year ($824 million).
Preliminary anti-dumping duties were imposed of US PET imports from Canada, Oman, India and China in October 2015 after the US Commerce Department determined imports from these countries in 2014 had been sold at an unfair value.
A final decision on the duties has been delayed from March 1 to March 7, an International US Trade Administration official, Tim Truman, told PCW Monday. -- Xavier A. Cronin
