ExxonMobil's Beaumont olefins operations return to normal
HOUSTON, February 11, 2016 (PCW) -- ExxonMobil's olefins unit at Beaumont has returned to normal operations. Parts of the chemical site were shut Jan 21 following a power outage that shut the company's Beaumont refinery. The refinery began restarting around Feb 1 and had resumed operations by Feb 5.
The Beaumont unit's ethylene capacity is 1.8 billion pounds per year, or slightly less than 5 million pounds per day, representing 4.1% of Texas ethylene capacity and 2.9% of all Gulf Coast ethylene capacity.
The full return of Beaumont's ethylene production will bring overall steam cracker operating rates in the Gulf to nearly 100%.
Spot Feb ethylene was bid at 18.5 cpp and offered at 19 cpp Thursday morning. Feb last traded at 18.75 cpp on Wednesday.
