Plastic scrap exports to Canada up 36%, to China down 21% in 2015
HOUSTON, February 11, 2016 (PCW) -- US exports of plastic scrap to Canada last year surged by 36% from 2014 to 243,300 metric tons, the latest USA Trade Online data show.
Plastic scrap exports to China--the leading destination by volume--fell by 21% in 2015 to 864,700 mt. On the whole, exports in 2015 were down half a percent to 2,058,000 mt, valued at $817.8 million. Exports to Hong Kong in 2015 were up 7.6% at 609,100 mt.
The five plastic scrap export categories tracked by USA Trade Online are PE, PS, PVC, PET and "other," which includes resins mixed together or not found in the four categories.
The Dominican Republic saw PVC scrap exports in 2015 of 1,529 mt, up from 664 kilograms in 2014. -- Xavier A. Cronin
