US PET scrap exports to China down 40% in 2015, valued at $51 million
HOUSTON, February 26, 2016 (PCW) -- US exports of scrap PET to China last year fell by 40% from 2014, the latest USA Trade Online data show.
China received more US plastic exports last year than any other country. For the PET scrap category, exports in 2015 totaled 143,236 metric tons valued at $50.9 million, down from 240,062 MT valued at $88.6 million in 2014. This scrap includes post-consumer PET bales and post-industrial preforms.
One reason for the drop is the increase of recycling of PET and other plastic in China, market sources said.
Total US plastic scrap exports in 2015 were 2,058,000 MT, valued at $817.8 million, down from 2,183,000 MT valued at $952.8 million in 2014. -- Xavier A. Cronin
