HOUSTON, February 9, 2016 (PCW) -– Fluor Corporation on Tuesday that it had been selected to perform the front-end engineering and design on LyondellBasell’s planned propylene oxide and tertiary butyl alcohol plant in Texas.
The plant will be the world’s largest and will be located at LyondellBasell’s Channelview and Bayport Choate facilities. The PO plant will have a capacity of 1 billion lb/yr, while the TBA unit will have a capacity of 2 billion lb/yr. LyondellBasell’s plan also includes an ethers plant at the Bayport Choate site.
The units’ products will be used in the production of polyols, high-octane gasoline components and other isobutylene derivatives.
The FEED is expected to be completed this year. Fluor did not disclose the amount of the contract.
Last week, LyondellBasell during its earnings call said it would make a final investment decision on the PO/TBA plant after FEED is completed. In-service is targeted for 2018-19. -– Samantha Hartke
