US PET scrap exports to China down 40% in 2015
HOUSTON, February 9, 2016 (PCW) -- US PET scrap exports to China last year, valued at $103.1 million, were down by 40% from 2014, the latest USA Trade Online data show
PET scrap exports to China in 2015 totaled 143,236 metric tons, down from 240,062 MT in 2014.
All US scrap PET exports last year totaled 275,205 MT, down by 93,561 MT or 25% from 2014. PET scrap exports in 2014 were valued at $138.2 million.
The value of all US plastic scrap exports in 2015 was $817.8 million, down from $952.8 million in 2014. PET is one of five plastic scrap categories tracked for export by USA Trade Online, a unit of the US Census Bureau, part of the US Commerce Department.
The PET scrap category includes bales comprised of bottles and containers collected curbside and post-industrial PET preforms.
Bangladesh, which received no US PET scrsap exports in 2014, posted 1,600 MT in 2015. Exports to Hong Kong in 2015 were 96,899 MT, up from 92,540 MT in 2014. -- Xavier A. Cronin
