US PET exports down 6.3% in 2016; less to Canada, China
HOUSTON, February 9, 2017 (PCW) -- US exports of prime PET in 2016 totaled 231,928 metric tons, down 6.3%, from 2015, the latest USA Trade Online data show. The shipments dropped 15,765 mt from the previous year and were valued at $398.5 million.
Exports in 2016 went to 65 countries.
Exports to Canada, the top destination, totaled 56,665 mt in 2016, down 8,420 mt, or 13%. Exports to Mexico gained 5,183 mt to 52,180, a 12.5% increase. The country is the second biggest recipient.
The Netherlands was the number three destination with 2016 exports at 41,078 mt, up 2,922 mt, or 7.6%; China, at fourth, saw exports last year of 31,748 mt, down 3,488 mt, or 9.9%.
Exports to Romania in 2016 totaled 109 kg, down from 5 mt in 2015. -- Xavier A. Cronin
