Raw mix NGL pipeline explodes in Louisiana

HOUSTON, February 10, 2017 (PCW) – A raw mix, or Y-grade, natural gas liquids gathering pipeline exploded late Thursday night in Paradis, Louisiana, injuring two workers with another one still missing as of Friday morning.

The 20-inch pipeline, owned by Phillips 66, runs from Venice, Louisiana, to Paradis and is connected to the larger Discovery offshore gathering and processing system, which is operated by Williams.

The pipeline in question runs to a 32,000 b/d fractionator in Paradis.

On Friday morning, the pipeline had been blocked off and product was continuing to burn. Area residents had been evacuated.

As of 9.30am CT, Gulf Coast spot purity products were trading 0.5-1.75 cpg stronger than Thursday’s close with the exception of ethane, which was about 0.5 cpg weaker. -- Samantha Hartke
