US PET scrap exports plunge in Nov on China's import ban
HOUSTON, January 5, 2018 (PCW) -- US exports of PET scrap fell by 54% in Nov 2017 from Nov 2016, a result primarily of China's ban on many scrap imports under its National Sword program.
US exports to China in Nov totaled 871 metric tons, down by 10,159 mt or 92% from Nov 2016, the latest US Commerce Department data show. Total PET scrap exports in Nov 2017 were 12,676 mt, down by 15,015 mt or 54% from Nov 2016. China and Hong Kong together accounted for about 85% of US PET scrap exports in 2016.
Exports to Turkey totaled 2,687 mt in Nov 2017, up by 2,288 mt or 573% from Nov 2016; to Vietnam they totaled 2,361 mt, up by 1,176 mt or 99%; to Hong Kong they totaled 3,204 mt, down by 9,497 mt or 75% from Nov 2016. -- Xavier A Cronin
