Wintry conditions impact Houston-area olefins, polymers units
HOUSTON, January 17, 2018 (PCW) – Frigid temperatures in the greater Houston area have resulted in a rash of production issues at several olefins units. These include:
Flint Hills Resources 1.45 billion lbs/yr PDH unit in Houston experienced a unit upset early Wednesday. It was in the process of restarting that same day, according to a TCEQ filing.
Huntsman’s Port Neches 400 million lbs/yr ethylene unit has flaring following weather-related outages at its two ethylene oxide units, according to TCEQ.
Equistar’s 2.5 billion lbs/yr Corpus Christi olefins unit has flaring following a compressor issue that began late Tuesday: TCEQ
Chevron Phillips’ ethylene units 22, 24 and 33 (total ethylene capacity: 4.35 billion lbs/yr) are flaring following a steam supply loss late Tuesday: TCEQ.
