MPLX to add 6 processing, fractionation plants in Marcellus/Utica
HOUSTON, February 1, 2018 (PCW) –- Marathon Petroleum subsidiary MPLX said Thursday it would add six natural gas processing/fractionation plants in the Northeast region with a total fractionation capacity of 100,000 b/d by year’s end.
Specifically for NGLs, the 20,000 b/d Sherwood, WV ethane fractionation plant is expected to come online in 3Q and the 20,000 b/d Harmon Creek, PA ethane frac, as well as the 60,000 b/d Hopedale IV propane-plus frac are expected online in 4Q. In the Midwest, the 1 million-barrel Robinson butane cavern in Illinois is expected to be complete in 2Q. The storage facility would allow MPLX’s parent, Marathon, to replace its current third-party storage needs in the region.
These additions are part of MPLX’s $2.2 billion capital growth program for the year.
MPLX also reported on Thursday 4Q net income of $238 million, up 78.9% from the $133 million seen in the year-ago period. The uptick was attributed to higher plant utilizations due to increased gathered, processed and fractionated volumes. -- Samantha Hartke
