Global March benzene contracts settle with decreases

HOUSTON, February 28, 2018 (PCW) -– Global benzene contract prices were lower for March on softer downstream demand and weaker spot values.

The US March contract price settled at 306 cpg ($915/mt), down 5 cpg from February. The European March contract fell €5/mt to €730/mt ($898/mt or 300 cpg) CIF NWE. The Asia Contract Price for March was fully settled at $920/mt (308 cpg) CFR Asia, down $35/mt from Feb.

Spot values were largely lower on weaker crude and softer downstream demand amid a slew of styrene unit turnarounds and unexpected outages. Spot Asian values fell $14/mt, or 1.5%, during the month, while European prices rose $8/mt (0.9%). US spot values were down 9 cpg (2.9%) and Brent was lower by $3.02/bbl (4.3%).
