Anti-dumping duties on PET imports from 5 countries expected Apr 30
HOUSTON, April 16, 2018 (PCW) -- Preliminary anti-dumping duties on US PET imports from South Korea, Indonesia, Pakistan, Taiwan and Brazil will likely be imposed on Apr 30, a source with the US Commerce Department said on Monday.
Imports from these countries in 2017 accounted for about 42% of the total.
US trade investigators ruled last year that these imports had been sold in the US at less-than fair market value. AD duties are levied as cash deposits that must be posted with US Customs and Border Protection before imports are cleared for entry.
There have been no PET imports from Taiwan, Brazil and Indonesia in Jan-Feb, the most recent data show. Imports from South Korea in Jan-Feb were 3,025 mt, down by 1,154 mt or 27% from Jan-Feb 2017, while imports from Pakistan totaled 9,479 mt, up by 7,111 mt.
Total US PET imports in Jan-Feb were 118,806 mt, up by 10,512 mt or 9.7% from Jan-Feb 2017.
Although Mexico remained the top source of US imports in Jan-Feb at 33,623 mt, volumes were down by 36.6% from Jan-Feb 2017. -- Xavier A Cronin
