ExxonMobil commissioning new cracker; expects service in mid-year

HOUSTON, April 27, 2018 (PCW) –- ExxonMobil said on Friday it is commissioning its new 3.3 billion lbs/yr ethane cracker in Baytown, TX, and expects the plant to go into service in the middle of the year.

The plant will produce feedstock for the company’s new polyethylene lines located in Mont Belvieu.

Exxon on Friday also announced its US chemicals business saw 1Q earnings of $503 million, down from the $529 million from the year-ago period due to higher growth-related expenses and lower margins. The global chemicals group, however, reported 1Q earnings of $1.011 billion, compared to $1.171 billion in 1Q 2017. -- Samantha Hartke
