Global May benzene contracts post mixed settlements
HOUSTON, April 30, 2018 (PCW) – Global benzene contract prices posted mixed results for May.
The US May contract price settled at 293 cpg ($876/mt) FOB HTC, down 6 cpg from April. The Asia benzene contract price settled at $850/mt (284 cpg) CFR Asia, up $10/mt from April. The European May benzene contract price settled at $858/mt (€711/mt or 287 cpg) CIF ARA, a decrease of $12/mt from April, but up €9/mt due to currency exchange rate changes.
During the month, spot values also posted mixed results. US benzene spot values fell 1 cpg ($3/mt) or 0.3%, Europe was down $22.50/mt or 2.6%, but Asia rose $19.50/mt (2.4%). Brent crude gained $7/bbl (10.3%). US and European values were weighed down by planned and unplanned outages from downstream styrene units. Asia rose on increased demand from new units.--Samantha Hartke
