Nylon 66 feedstock HMD plant in UK down on power problem
HOUSTON, June 11, 2018 (PCW) -- The HMD plant in Seal Sands, UK, has been shut down due to "an unexpected electrical failure," according to a Jun 8 letter from BASF to customers.
INEOS operates the plant for BASF.
The closure will result in "substantial supply constraints" for HMD, AH-Salt, Polyamide 66 polymers and compounds, and nylon 66 Utramid A and Capron.
A force majeure on these products was declared on Jan 24; the Seal Sands closure will result in revisions to supply allocations per the existing FM.
"At this stage, we are not in the position to seriously predict how long the present Force Majeure will last," the letter states. -- Xavier A Cronin
