Global benzene contract prices mixed month-on-month for August

HOUSTON, August 2, 2018 (PCW) -- The US August contract price settled at 288 cpg ($861/mt) FOB HTC, up 4 cpg from July. The August European benzene contract price settled at $867/mt (€742/mt or 290 cpg) FOB ARA, down $53/mt from July. The August Asian benzene contract price settled at $860/mt (288 cpg) CFR Asia, up $40/mt from July.

During the month, spot values posted mixed results. US benzene spot values rose by 11 cpg ($33/mt) or 3.9%, and Asia increase by $56/mt (6.9%). Europe was down by $3/mt or 0.3%. Brent crude lost $3.05/bbl (3.9%) during the month. Increased downstream demand in the US and rising demand in Asian due to completed styrene unit turnarounds pressured values higher.
