Global benzene contract prices mixed for September
HOUSTON, September 4, 2018 (PCW) -- The US September contract price settled at 298 cpg ($891/mt) FOB HTC, up 10 cpg from Aug. The September European benzene contract price settled at $857/mt (€733/mt or 287 cpg) FOB ARA, down $10/mt from August. The September Asian benzene contract price settled at $900/mt (301 cpg) CFR Asia, up $40/mt from August.
During the month, spot values posted mixed results. US benzene spot values fell by 2 cpg ($6/mt) or 0.7%, and Asia increased by $17/mt (2%). Europe was up by $13/mt or 1.5%. Brent crude gained $5.03/bbl (6.9%) during the month. Completed styrene unit turnarounds in Asia pushed values higher in that region, while US demand was flat with some downstream production issues keeping demand at bay.
