US nonfuel use propylene supplies drop first time in nine weeks
HOUSTON, September 6, 2018 (PCW) -- US nonfuel use propylene inventories fell by 327,000 barrels (-10.4%) to 2.832 million barrels for the week ended August 31, the EIA said today. The drop in inventories nearly erased the buildup of the prior three weeks, and ended an eight-week-long stretch of rising inventories. Propylene inventories are 597,000 barrels lower than year-ago levels of 3.429 million barrels.
Propylene inventories spiked in 2017 as petrochemical end-users struggled to restart plants in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey. US Gulf refinery utilization last week rebounded 1.4 percentage points to 97.2%. A year ago, Gulf Coast refineries were at 63.4% utilization. -- David Barry
