US plastic scrap exports to China, Hong Kong continue despite 'Sword'

HOUSTON, November 29, 2018 (HOUSTON) -- Despite a sharp drop in US plastic scrap exports to China and Hong Kong over the last year—due to the China's 'National Sword' pollution-control campaign — China and Hong Kong continue to receive thousands of metric tons of shipments of PE and other plastic scrap rom the US .

For PE alone, more than 35,000 metric tons have been exported to China and Hong Kong this year through September. (See table below) The other plastic scrap categories the US government tracks for export and import are PVC, PS, PET and unsorted “other”. PE scrap exports are the highest in terms of volume among the five categories. -- Xavier A Cronin
