Energy Transfer opens long-awaited Mariner East 2 pipeline
HOUSTON, December 31, 2018 (PCW) -- Energy Transfer put its 350-mile Mariner East 2 NGL pipeline into service on Dec 29, providing a new outlet for ethane, propane and butane from the Marcellus and Utica Shales areas, the company announced over the weekend.
The new 20-inch pipeline has a planned capacity of 275,000 bbl/day, bringing total takeaway capacity with Mariner East 1 to 345,000 bbl/day. It is expected to boost NGLs exports, including ethane, from Marcus Hook, PA.
With the opening of the pipeline, Navigator Holding is scheduled to load its inaugural ethane cargo on Navigator Aurora and begin regular voyages to Borealis' cracker in Sweden, Navigator executives said in a November earnings call.
Shippers expect the pipeline to commence service at a reduced capacity of 150,000 bbl/day and reach the planned capacity of 250,000 bbl/day by 2H 2019.
Another Mariner expansion, the Mariner East 2X pipeline, parallels the Mariner East 2 pipeline and is expected to come online in late 2019.
