Global benzene contract prices lower for January

HOUSTON, January 4, 2019 (PCW) -- The US January benzene contract price settled at 183 cpg ($547/mt) FOB HTC, down 28 cpg from December. The January European benzene contract price settled at $552/mt (€485/mt or 185 cpg) FOB ARA, down $65/mt from December. The January Asia benzene contract price settled at $535/mt (179 cpg) CFR Asia, down $125/mt from December.

During December, spot values were lower. US benzene spot values fell by 34 cpg ($102/mt), or 16.7%, and Asia decreased by $116.50/mt (18.2%). Europe was down by $152/mt or 8.5%. Brent crude lost $16.28/bbl (26.4%) during the month. Benzene tracked lower throughout the month on the weaker overall energy complex and muted year-end downstream demand. -- Tom Sosnowski
