US government shutdown delays import/export data updates
HOUSTON, January 17, 2019 (PCW) -- The US government shutdown has delayed publication of Nov import/export data, including US exports of plastic scrap, according to the US Commerce Department.
“Due to the lapse in Congressional Appropriations for Fiscal Year 2019, the U.S. Department of Commerce is closed,” Commerce’s web site states. “Commerce Department websites will not be updated until further notice.”
Commerce’s Census Bureau’s USA Trade Online division publishes monthly US import/export data. Nov 2018 data would have been published the first week of Jan had there been no shutdown. Of particular interest to the US recycling business on the plastics side are details of US exports of plastic scrap, categorized as PE, PS, PVC, PET and unsorted ‘other’, and the countries to which they are exported. -- Xavier A Cronin
