Sasol Lake Charles LLDPE commissioning nearly complete
HOUSTON, January 29, 2019 (PCW) -- Commissioning activities at Sasol's LLDPE expansion in Lake Charles, LA are close to completion, and beneficial operations are expected soon, a company spokesperson confirmed today.
Sasol defines beneficial operations as continuous production of on-spec product for at least 72 hours.
The 470,000 mt/yr (1.0 billion lbs/yr) unit is expected to produce conventional and metallocene LLDPE hexene.
Ethylene feedstock for the unit will be provided by Sasol's new 1.5 million mt/yr ethane cracker in Lake Charles, LA once it also commences beneficial operations. In the interim, Sasol is sourcing ethylene from storage inventory and the merchant market. -- David Barry
