Sasol's first Lake Charles expansion unit is running
HOUSTON, February 13, 2019 (PCW) -- Sasol's new LLDPE unit in Lake Charles, LA has achieved beneficial operations, the company announced today.
The 470,000 mt/yr (1.04 billion lbs/yr) unit, which is the first production unit of seven at the Lake Charles Chemical Project to come online, is expected to mainly produce LLDPE hexene and mLLDPE film grades.
Sasol defines beneficial operations as continuous production of on spec material for at least 72 hours.
The company last week released a revised guidance on beneficial operations for the other units in the project, including a 1.5 million mt/yr (3.3 billion lbs/yr) ethane cracker and a 420,000 mt/yr (925 million lbs/yr) LDPE unit (see story here). -- David Barry
