Westlake expects 1H 2019 startup for JV cracker
HOUSTON, February 19, 2019 (PCW) -- Westlake's joint venture ethane cracker near Sulphur, LA should start up in 1H 2019, company officials said in an earnings-related call today. That is similar to the guidance provided in the company's 3Q 2018 earnings call.
The cracker will have an ethylene capacity of 1 million mt/yr (2.2 billion lbs/yr) and consume approximately 62,000 b/d of ethane.
Westlake owns a 10% stake in the joint venture with Lotte, but has the option to increase its share to as much as 50%.
Lotte started up a 700,000 mt/yr monethylene glycol (MEG) plant at the same site earlier this month, according to local media reports.
Westlake officials also stated that the company has no olefins plant turnarounds scheduled until 1H 2020. -- David Barry
