Bayport Polymers breaks ground on Pasadena PE project
HOUSTON, February 28, 2019 (PCW) -- Bayport Polymers officially began construction of its new 625,000 mt/yr (1.38 billion lbs/yr) PE unit in Pasadena, TX today. Start-up is expected in 2021 at the site adjacent to the joint venture's existing HDPE units.
Bayport Polymers, also known as Baystar, is a joint venture of Total and Novealis Holdings, which is itself a joint venture of Borealis and NOVA Chemicals.
Borealis will supply its 3rd-generation Borstar technology for the PE plant, which will be supplied with ethylene from Bayport Polymers' 1 million mt/yr ethane cracker, now under construction in Port Arthur, TX.
It will be the first implementation of Borstar technology in North America, capable of producing bi-modal and multi-modal resins. -- David Barry
