Sasol delays Lake Charles cracker project start-up until 2019
HOUSTON, March 7, 2016 (PCW) -- Sasol said Monday it would delay the start-up date of its planned cracker project in Lake Charles, Louisiana, by about a year to 2019.
In a financial release filing, the South-African based company said while site construction has already begun, “cost control remains a primary focus.”
“Given the uncertain economic environment, we have taken a decision to pace the execution of the [project] to support the Response Plan,” the filing stated.
The company also noted it had experienced some initial challenges with construction due to heavy rainfall last year and the regulatory need to relocate a small waterway.
Sasol added a detailed review of the project’s cost and schedule is ongoing and would be completed by the middle of the year.
