PET scrap exports surge on demand from China, Vietnam
HOUSTON, March 13, 2017 (PCW) -- US exports of PET scrap surged to 28,623 metric tons in January, up 15,641 mt, or 118%, from January 2016, the latest USA Trade Online data show.
The increase was the result of higher exports to the top three destinations -- China, Hong Kong and Vietnam, respectively.
Exports to China totaled 13,054 mt in January, up 137% from a year earlier; to Hong Kong they were 12,168 mt, up 120% from January 2016; and to Vietnam PET scrap exports totaled 886 mt in January, up 427% from a year earlier.
All exports in January were valued at $9.5 million compared to $4.6 million a year earlier; the average unit cost was 33 cpp, compared to 35 cpp in January 2016. The unit cost to China in January 2017 was 29 cpp, to Kong Kong 37 cents, and 46 cpp to Vietnam -- Xavier A. Cronin
