US PS scrap exports up 4% in January; imports down 63%

HOUSTON, March 15, 2017 (PCW) -- US exports of PS scrap totaled 1,375 metric tons in January, up 61 mt, or 4%, from January 2016, the latest USA Trade Online data show. The top export destination in January was Canada, at 607 mt, up from 501 mt in January 2016.

US PS scrap imports in January totaled 354 mt, down 601 mt, or 63% from January 2016. Imports from the top source, Mexico, were 256 mt in January, down from 763 mt a year earlier. PS scrap imports from China dropped to zero from 114 mt in January 2016. Scrap PS is one of five plastic scrap categories tracked by USA Trade Online, a unit of the US Census Bureau. -- Xavier A.
